Duncan Sheik

at Narrows Center for the Arts on Friday, 12/16/2011 – 8:00 PM

Born in 1970, while studying at Brown University, Duncan Sheik played with Lisa Loeb, but began shopping his own demo tape around soon after graduation. Later, he appeared with His Boy Elroy on a 1993 album for Epic, and spent several years writing songs before he signed a solo deal with Atlantic.

With Rupert Hine in the producer's chair, Sheik recorded his debut album and released it in June 1996. By the end of the year, "Barely Breathing" had become a modest hit and was used to great effect on the TV show ER, and he resurfaced in 1998 with Humming. 2001’s Phantom Moon showcased a more orchestral.

The next year, Sheik continued with this experimental orchestrations -- but with his signature rock style -- for Daylight. He and Sater also prepared for the 2003 opening of their Broadway musical, Spring Awakening. White Limousine was released in 2006, Whisper House in 2009, and this year he released a fun and compelling collection of 80s hits called Covers 80’s.

Battleship Cove Exhibits

at Battleship Cove on All Week from 01/02/2011 to 12/31/2011 – 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Battleship Cove’s newest exhibit is “Women Protecting US.”  The exhibit in one of the forward areas of the World War II Battleship USS Massachusetts is dedicated to the efforts and sacrifices women have made through the years in service to their country.

Battleship Cove is a nonprofit maritime museum and war memorial that traces its origins to the wartime crew of the USS Massachusetts. This dedicated veterans group was responsible for the donation of the decommissioned vessel from the Navy and its subsequent public display alongside four other naval ships and four related aircraft.
