Carlene Carter

at the Room at Waterstreet Cafe

Monday, 02/15/2010 – 7:00 PM

Born Rebecca Carlene Smith on Sept. 26, 1955, she is the daughter of June Carter and Carl Smith, and the granddaughter of Maybelle Carter.

Her first album, “Carlene Carter,” was released in 1978. Carter has a total of nine albums, including hit album “I Fell in Love,” and “best of” collection, “Hindsight 20/20” released by Giant in 1996. She has named the 1995 album “Little Acts of Treason,” which contains a duet with her father of the hit “Loose Talk,” her favorite disc.

Carter has been playing guitar and piano since she was a child. Her mother, June Carter, and grandmother, Maybelle Carter, are the strongest influence on her and her music. Carter married British singer-writer-producer Nick Lowe in the early ‘80s, and he has also influenced her music. Her music has English pop, rock and R&B influences.

She has performed both in Europe and the United States, in places such as London, Sweden, Denmark, and Dublin. Carter has performed with well-known musicians, from Vince Gill, Jen Cash, Paul Schafer to Clarence Clemons.

After the release of her “Best of” collection in 1996, Carter took time away from the music business due to legal problems and a series of personal losses, including family members. Nevertheless, she occasionally performed on successful tours in Europe.
She returned to business in 2008 with the album “Stronger.”
